Mike Roberts, president of McDonald's U.S.A., announced today the appointment of Jeff Stratton as president of McDonald's West Division, effective immediately. Stratton replaces Roberts, who was recently named to lead McDonald's U.S. business.

Stratton, age 45, began his career as a crewmember at a McDonald's restaurant in Detroit in 1972. Since then, he has risen to management positions both on a regional and corporate basis. Most recently, he served as the West Division's Senior Vice President and Restaurant Support Officer.

"Jeff brings over 28 years of proven McDonald's experience to his new position," said Roberts. "One of his greatest strengths is his ability to collaborate and partner with our owner/operators, regional managers, suppliers and staff to achieve profitable growth and an outstanding level of customer service."

Stratton will report to Roberts and oversee more than 2,400 restaurants covering 14 states. In 1997, McDonald's divided its domestic operations into five divisions: West, Northeast, Southeast, Great Lakes and Midwest.

"I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to lead such a dynamic part of the country for McDonald's and work with a group of committed, talented owner/operators and staff," said Stratton. "The West Division prides itself on innovation, quick action and great people, and I plan to continue to raise the bar on all fronts."

McDonald's is the world's leading food-service retailer, with more than 28,000 restaurants serving more than 45 million people a day in 120 countries. Approximately 85 percent of McDonald's U.S. restaurants are owned and operated by independent franchisees.
