As of noon (CST) Friday, August 31, 2001, McDonald's has given thirteen customers an exciting reason to smile. The lucky customers were in the right McDonald's ... at the right place ... at the right time to become potential winners in "McDonald's 2001 Instant Giveaway."

"As you know, this Giveaway is unique, fun and very simple for our customers," said Mike Roberts, President, McDonald's USA. "There is nothing to buy; nothing to collect. There are no game pieces. It's just a matter of customers being at the right place at the right time for the Instant Giveaway Prize Team to 'tap them on the shoulder' either in the restaurant or Drive- thru, and let them know that they are winners. It's that easy."

So far today, a McDonald's customer in Tompkinsville, Kentucky was greeted as a potential $1 million winner. Additionally, a customer from Lake Ozark, Missouri has been identified as a potential $100,000 winner.

Each day of McDonald's five-day giveaway, there will be eleven cash prizes awarded. In all, 55 winners will share five $1 million prizes and fifty $100,000 prizes for a total of $10 million.

Thursday's potential $1 million winner was in a McDonald's restaurant in Santa Ana, California. Ten other McDonald's customers were potential winners of the $100,000 prizes. These potential winners, subject to final verification, come from across the nation as well as Canada including:
