Mike Roberts, President of McDonald's USA, today announced the promotion of Bill Lamar to Senior Vice President in charge of McDonald's U.S. Marketing. In this role, Lamar will oversee all aspects of national marketing for McDonald's 13,000 U.S. restaurants.

"Bill Lamar has proven marketing, business and field expertise. He has demonstrated the type of leadership skills that are necessary to create new and exciting ways to engage and please our customers," said Roberts. "He also has a unique ability to bring people together, get results and do whatever it takes to accomplish the important work at hand."

Bill Lamar began his McDonald's career in 1984 as a Staff Director in McDonald's National Marketing Department. Most recently, he served as Vice President and General Manager of McDonald's Atlanta Region, where he was responsible for nearly 700 McDonald's restaurants with more than one billion dollars in annual sales. Before joining McDonald's, Lamar worked in marketing for Quaker Oats, Burrell Advertising and United Airlines.

"Bill has served in leadership positions in key areas of McDonald's marketing and restaurant operations, and has proven to be an excellent leader and steward of our brand," said Roberts.

Lamar earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois in 1973, and a master's degree from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management in 1976.

"I'm very excited and quite honored to be selected for this assignment," said Lamar. "My marketing and operations management experience with McDonald's during the past 18 years has prepared me for this wonderful and challenging opportunity. I'm delighted to apply those years of experience at McDonald's to benefit of our customers and stakeholders. I am also fortunate to be working with world-class talent in our marketing department and our agencies on one of the world's most trusted and recognized brands."

Lamar succeeds Tom Ryan as head of McDonald's U.S. Marketing. Ryan will focus his attention exclusively on McDonald's concept development and menu innovation.
