PRNewswire-FirstCall
OAK BROOK, Ill.
Dec 30, 2003
"We applaud and support the actions and leadership taken by Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman and the USDA today.
"These additional safeguards are very consistent with steps we believe will further protect the nation's beef supply. McDonald's strict food safety specifications already include our feed certification program and prohibitions against downers, air injection stunning, AMR, and SRM, all backed by third- party audits that verify these policies are strictly enforced, and more.
"McDonald's will continue to work closely with governmental, scientific and industry leaders as we collectively review and advocate measures that strengthen safeguards for the U.S. beef supply.
"In the best interest of our customers, McDonald's is committed to working with USDA, FDA, other federal regulatory agencies, our International Scientific Advisory Council on BSE, and other experts as we continue to rigorously enforce our long-standing food safety standards."
