Peter Beresford Joins Senior Management Team of McDonald's Global Marketing Department

McDonald's Corporation (NYSE: MCD) today announced that Peter Beresford, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of McDonald's UK and Division President of McDonald's Northern Europe, has joined the Global Marketing Department's senior management team in a newly created role to lead strategic Global Brand Development.

He will assume his responsibilities at the company's Oak Brook home office effective May 1st, reporting to Mary Dillon, McDonald's Global Chief Marketing Officer.

In making the announcement, Dillon said, "I have a strong leadership team in place to continue to build McDonald's momentum and to further deepen our relationship with customers. This new role is being created to bring additional strategic focus to our brand's global development and position in the future.

"Peter brings significant management and marketing experience to help lead these efforts. He will lead the company's work in the areas of brand positioning, creative framework development and implementation, advertising practices and agency relationships. Additionally, he will continue to build on our Balanced, Active Lifestyles initiatives through active outreach, dialogue and collaboration with McDonald's Global Advisory Council and other key stakeholders in this important arena to ensure that McDonald's is well- positioned to meet the ever-changing lifestyle needs of our customers.

Prior to his leadership of McDonald's U.K., Beresford served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and was a member of the Board of Directors for McDonald's Japan, where he was responsible for operations, supply chain, restaurant development, strategic planning, marketing and communications.

He began his career with McDonald's Canada in 1976 in the marketing arena before advancing to numerous senior leadership roles within McDonald's Canada. In addition, he was part of the five-member McDonald's Canada Executive Team that helped open McDonald's Russia in 1990.

Continuing in key leadership positions on Dillon's global marketing leadership team are Senior Vice President Dean Barrett, leading Global Alliances, Technology and the Family Business. Global Consumer Insights will continue to be led by Senior Vice President Eric Leininger.

McDonald's is the leading foodservice retailer with more than 30,000 local restaurants serving quality food to nearly 50 million customers in more than 100 countries each day. Approximately 70 percent of McDonald's restaurants worldwide are owned and operated by independent, local men and women.

Peter Beresford most recently served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for McDonald's in the United Kingdom, leading its 1,250 restaurants. He also served as President for the Northern Europe Division.

Beresford joined McDonald's Canada in 1976 as an Advertising Manager. In 1992, he was made Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President for Canada. He was promoted to Executive Vice President in 1999 and elected to the Canadian Board of Directors.

During this period, Beresford was also part of the five-member Canadian Executive Team that created the company in the former Soviet Union, now McDonald's Russia. He helped open the first restaurant in Moscow, Pushkin Square in January of 1990. He spent several years providing support in the areas of marketing, communications and strategic planning for McDonald's Russia.

In September 2003, Beresford was appointed Executive Vice President of McDonald's Japan. He served as Chief Operating Officer and member of the Board of Directors for McDonald's Japan. In his executive capacity, he oversaw operations, supply chain, development, strategic planning and the marketing and communication functions.

Beresford earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada.

He was also heavily involved with Ronald McDonald House Charities in Canada for many years and served as President of the charity in Canada from 1993 to 2002. He was instrumental in opening the first Canadian Ronald McDonald's House in 1981.
