Jan Fields & Jim Johannesen Named to Leadership Posts at McDonald's USA

Ralph Alvarez, the newly named President and Chief Operating Officer of McDonald's Corporation (NYSE: MCD), announced today that Janice (Jan) Fields, President, Central Division, McDonald's USA, has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, McDonald's USA, and that James (Jim) Johannesen, Senior Vice President and Chief Support Officer, McDonald's USA, has been named President, Central Division, McDonald's USA.

On Wednesday, Don Thompson was elected to succeed Ralph Alvarez as President of McDonald's USA. Thompson previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer for McDonald's USA.

In announcing these leadership promotions, Alvarez said, "Don Thompson and I are proud to announce the promotions of Jan Fields and Jim Johannesen. At McDonald's, we are fortunate to have great depth of restaurant experience and management talent. Jan and Jim are seasoned executives who exemplify the strong leadership qualities needed to continue our momentum. Jan Fields, 51, is an executive with 28 years of McDonald's experience -- beginning her career with the company as a restaurant crew member.

Since joining the company, Fields has worked in all facets of McDonald's restaurant business. In 1994, she was appointed Regional Vice President of the Pittsburgh Region.

In her most recent role as President, Central Division, McDonald's USA, Fields was responsible for more than 4,000 McDonald's restaurants located in seven geographic regions in the central United States, covering 24 states.

Jan and her husband Doug have two children and two grandchildren.

Jim Johannesen, 52, joined McDonald's as a corporate attorney in 1979. His career has spanned a variety of disciplines including regional restaurant management.

Most recently in his role as Senior Vice President & Chief Support Officer, McDonald's USA, Johannesen was responsible for Real Estate and Construction, Franchising, Franchise Relations, Ombudsman, Diversity Initiatives, and U.S. Communications functions. He has been in this position since 2002.

In 1997, he entered the McDonald's Executive Training Program in preparation for his role as Regional Vice President in Phoenix. In 2001, he moved to Chicago to serve as the General Manager for the Chicago Region.

Johannesen earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Western Illinois University and his Juris Doctorate degree from the Law School at the University of Illinois. He and his wife have six children.

Don Thompson is president of McDonald's USA. In this role, Thompson is responsible for the entire McDonald's US system including 13,700 restaurants.

Prior to this role, Thompson served as executive vice president and chief operating officer, McDonald's USA. In this role, Thompson oversaw day to day operations for the entire US business, and was instrumental in establishing and executing the US strategic growth plan.

Since he joined the company, Thompson has held a variety of leadership positions. He has served as executive vice president for McDonald's restaurant solutions group, where he led global innovation orchestration; president of McDonald's West Division, where he led an organization of 4,000 restaurants in 16 states and also served as president of the former McDonald's Midwest Division, overseeing 2,200 restaurants.

Before joining the Midwest Division, he was regional vice president for the San Diego Region and was responsible for more than 350 restaurants in Southern California.

Thompson has played a crucial role in setting McDonald's strategic direction and establishing System alignment around the business plan, helping the US company achieve record sales growth over the last three years.

Thompson began his career with McDonald's in 1990 as a restaurant systems engineer.

Thompson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University.

A longtime advocate for people development, she is actively involved in the company's mentoring and diversity programs, acting as Executive Sponsor for the Career Development program and speaking at many of the Diversity Network meetings. Outside of McDonald's, she currently serves on the boards of the Chicago Urban League and United Cerebral Palsy, and formerly served on the board of the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Fields started her career with McDonald's in 1978 as a crew member. Fields and her husband Doug have two children and two grandchildren.

Jim Johannesen is president of McDonald's Central Division. He is responsible for more than 4,400 McDonald's restaurants, covering seven geographic regions in the central United States. He plays a key role in interfacing with executive and regional management as well as restaurant owner/operators, suppliers and staff.

Prior to his current role, Johannesen was senior vice president and chief support officer, McDonald's USA. In this role he oversaw several departments including Real Estate and Construction, Franchising, Franchise Relations, Ombudsman, Diversity Initiatives, U.S. Communications, Wal-Mart Alliance, Strategy and Special Venues, and was also involved in McDonald's U.S. Legal Function.

Since he joined the company, Johannesen's career has spanned a variety of disciplines. Prior to joining the U.S. leadership team, he served as vice president, general manager of the Chicago Region. In November 1997, Johannesen entered the executive training program in preparation for his role as regional vice president in Phoenix.

Early on in his career at McDonald's, Johannesen worked as an attorney in the corporate legal group. From there he went on to serve the U.S. system as director of business affairs, director of equipment purchasing and then to U.S. development, where he worked as an officer on all aspects of non- traditional restaurant development.

Johannesen is also active in the community. He is a member of the McDonald's Political Action Committee (PAC) and a member of the corporate board of advisors for the National Council La Raza (NCLR). In addition he is on the board of directors and serves as chairman of the finance committee for the Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF).

Johannesen graduated with a B.S. in Business from Western Illinois University and a J.D. Degree from the Law School at the University of Illinois.

Johannesen joined McDonald's Corporation in 1979. Johannesen and his wife Barbara have six children.
